TUARAN: Sabah Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will work with its state allies to ensure victory in the upcoming state polls.

Its chief Datuk Hajiji Noor said the party has no problem working with Sabah Umno and other Barisan Nasional component parties.

"Bersatu has its own approach for a win-win formula. We will not (contest) all or even most of the seats, as we need to look at their importance to our allies.

"I have met Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin several times. We will use our wisdom to decide what is the best for the election," he said after opening the party's Tuaran division convention here.

The incumbent Sulaman assemblyman said there will be a meeting among the Perikatan Nasional next week to discuss seat allocation and the necessary groundwork for the state elections.

He said although Sabah Bersatu has autonomy in making decisions, it will nevertheless seek advice from the president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, on candidates and seats to be contested.

"We will announce the details before nomination day. We are certain to be able to sort it out (by then)."

Earlier, in his speech, Hajiji said Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) needs to be defeated in the upcoming polls, as its two-year tenure in leading the state government has seen the state economy being undermined and the people suffering.

He said winning the state election will ensure that Perikatan Nasional, of which Bersatu is a component member, could look into the welfare of the people.

The Election Commission announced that state polls are to be held on Sept 26, with nomination day on Sept 12, and early voting on Sept 22.

The snap polls were called after outgoing Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal sought consent from Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin to dissolve the State Assembly on July 30.

The Warisan president made the call after former Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman claimed he had a simple majority to topple Shafie's state government.
