KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is not keen on using other party's logo during the upcoming state election.
Its Information chief Simsudin Sidek said this was because PKR has existed more than 20 years ago and spearheaded changes to the country's political landscape.
"Logo is an important symbol of idealism and identity of a party. It carries the meaning and direction of a certain political party.
"It also helps voters identify the party they want to choose in an election," he said in a statement.
He pointed out that the insistence of using the respective party logo was more due to principle rather than ego.
Simsudin was commenting on a proposal for Pakatan Harapan's candidates to use Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) logo during the upcoming state polls.
He added that the suggestion, made by Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), were regressive and unstrategic which could spell disasters for the survival of PKR in Sabah.
"Sabah PKR has more than 170,000 members, the second highest after Selangor. Therefore, such a suggestion is an insult for the members and supporters of the party.
"To ask PKR to use Warisan's logo is like asking Umno to use Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's logo, which is definitely inappropriate," he added.
Simsudin said it would be different if parties were to use an official coalition logo such as Pakatan Harapan or Barisan Nasional which shows political unity and agreement.
"As the decisions (on which logo to use) will be up to the respective parties, therefore as explained by (Warisan chief) Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, it is better for Amanah to use Warisan logo if they think such move would put them in an "advantage" without having to ask other parties to follow suit."
