KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno is expected to finalise negotiations with its allies on the contest for the 73 state seats in the upcoming state election within the next two weeks.

It's State Liaison chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said the party would discuss with its fellow Barisan Nasional component parties and others in the anti-Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) alliance.

Umno is expected to spearhead the fight against Warisan in the snap polls, with the other parties made up of MCA, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku, and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) among others.

Bung Moktar said Sabah Umno is seeking to contest the 32 seats allocated to the party in the last state polls which was held together with the 14th General Election.

"We wish to contest in more seats this time as Umno has its own advantage with its decade-long history (of presence) in Sabah.

"But we do not discount other parties which have their own strength. Therefore, we will need to negotiate and discuss seat allocations with other parties," he said after chairing a party meeting at the Sabah Umno headquarters, here, today.

Bung Moktar who is also the Kinabatangan Member of Parliament said that 90 per cent of the candidates contesting under Umno in the state polls would be made up of new faces.

"The list of candidates is still being finalised and will be unveiled at the respective constituencies in advance so the voters will be better prepared," he said.

He however did not reveal on whether former Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman would be fielded.

Bung Moktar added that he would contest for the Lumag state constituency.

He added that the electorate's expectations at the upcoming polls would be high on the doable promises from the new government.

"Warisan and Pakatan Harapan came up with promises that could be fulfilled, they fell apart. People are angry, God is also angry.

"But we will give a new offer that is achievable in the form of providing better security and economic development for the people of Sabah.

"We will provide better services, which is better than the previous leaders. It will be a major change and will benefit the younger generation and their future," he said.
