KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) has slammed the Federal leaders for failing to understand the larger picture of the East Malaysian state still lacking infrastructure beyond the story of Pitas' youtuber "Veveonah Mosibin".
Warisan Wira chief Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman said Veveonah's video should have opened the eyes of leaders on the need to develop Sabah but both failed to grasp the matter.
The teen's plight came to light after Deputy Communications and Multimedia minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin apologised to the Universiti Malaysia Sabah student for accusing her of seeking to get higher traffic for her youtube channel by pretending to sit for an examination on a tree due to poor internet connection.
On Monday, a deputy Finance Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri, who is also Kudat member of parliament, also repeated Zahidi's mistake. Rahim, in a Facebook posting, justified his claims in that Veveonah lives in a town and her family no longer had a house in the kampung where she claimed to have climbed a tree to sit for the exam.
However, he had deleted the post hours after posting after it caused an uproar among netizens.
Azis, who is also Sepanggar member of parliament, said both deputy ministers chose to bully Veveonah, who could have brought a big change in her community.
The former Deputy Home Minister said instead of attacking the 18-year-old, the lass should have been complimented for being able to generate creative videos to generate income to help her studies and family members.
"The main topic is that Sabah has a problem with telecommunications, even after 26 years of Barisan Nasional (BN) rule.
"Do not talk about Pitas, there is even problem in Kota Kinabalu," he said, mentioning former Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak who he alleged had failed to improve internet facility in Sabah.
Azis said BN's failure was due to denial syndrome among its leaders who only blamed the people whenever they tried to raise certain issues.
