KOTA KINABALU: All forms of sports, recreational activities and competitions will be stopped until further notice.
Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin said there are differences between the standard operating procedures used by the state and peninsular Malaysia.
"Prior to this, the federal Youth and Sports Ministry had on Oct 13 allowed several sports and recreations. However, its second announcement later the same day mentioned that all sports, recreational, social and cultural activities are banned for Sabah," he said in a statement.
Ellron added that the differing statements caused confusion among sports enthusiasts in the state.
He said the ministry hopes all sportsmen, premises owners and operators comply with the Conditional Movement Control Order as set by the National Security Council and the local authorities.
By being patient and staying at home, he added, the people can help break the Covid-19 infection chain in the state.
The ministry is also getting confirmation that a football match that involves Sabah on Oct 10 at Likas Stadium here has been postponed to Oct 19.
"Due to the increased number of Covid-19 cases and the inter-district travel ban, Sabah Football Association (Sabah FA) had asked the Malaysian Football League (MFL) to change the venue from Likas stadium to UTM stadium in Shah Alam.
"But even after the change of venue, the match cannot proceed and the Sabah FA have contacted the MFL chief executive officer to postpone it to Oct 31 at the UiTM Shah Alam stadium in Selangor."
