KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has distributed 9,409 food baskets for those in Covid-19-affected districts.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the aid is primarily distributed to heads of households, whose families are undergoing home quarantine.
To date, 3,673 families in Semporna have received the aid; 2,183 in Lahad Datu; 2,000 in Tawau; 1,053 in Kunak; and 500 in Sandakan.
"The state government hopes the people of Sabah will give their cooperation and comply with the implementation of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in the state.
"This is necessary in order to break the chain of Covid-19 infection," he said in a statement.
Masidi, who is also state Finance Minister II, said the state government will ensure that there is adequate supply of food and essential goods, and that essential services will be allowed to continue to operate.
He said that during the two-week implementation of the CMCO in the state, economic activities still can still continue provided they comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) laid out by the Health Ministry.
Meanwhile, he said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has asked the Health Ministry to optimise human capital and assets to help the state Health Department.
"The state government would like to extend its gratitude to the prime minister over the federal government's move via the Health Ministry in assisting Sabah with tackling the pandemic.
"This commitment was conveyed by the prime minister in a video conference with the National Security Council today, which I participated in," he said.
