KOTA BELUD: The battle against Covid-19 in Sabah can only be won if there is cooperation from everyone including civilians, Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said.
He said it would be an uphill task for the state government to break the chain of infection without public involvement.
"The community has to cooperate and take social responsibility by adopting the new norms at all levels.
"Maintain personal hygiene such as washing hands with water and soap, physical distancing, as well as wearing face masks," he said after taking part in an exercise to inspect security posts between here and Kota Marudu.
Also present was Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali.
Bung, who is also the state public works minister, said the state government was committed to assisting those affected by the pandemic.
Yesterday, state local government and housing minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the ministry had distributed 19,587 food baskets for targeted households.
He had previously said the aid would focus on families instructed by the Health Ministry to undergo home quarantine.
Sabah has 3,242 patients who are still receiving treatment while 2,208 have fully recovered.
"The Sabah government appreciates federal assistance in addressing the Covid-19 pandemic here.
"Meanwhile, all utility costs incurred in 16 buildings serving as hospital extensions will be borne by the state government."
