KOTA KINABALU: The varied value of food baskets from the Sabah government is due to price and geographical factors, said Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
"Our guidelines on providing food baskets is priced around RM100. But it depends on places they are being distributed and the prices of items when they are bought.
"The Disaster Operation Control Centre (PKOB) can decide the prices for items according to their districts. But, I assume in rural areas, the price would be higher," he said during a virtual press conference.
He was responding to a question on whether the value of food baskets is not being standardised as announced at RM100 each.
As of yesterday, the state via Community Development and People's Wellbeing Ministry, had distributed 100,654 food baskets.
Masidi, who is also state Local Government and Housing minister, said the state cabinet has agreed to extend the food aid to more people apart from those in lockdown areas or households told to undergo quarantine.
The state government has approved RM160 milllion on top of the announced RM50 million earlier this month to help people affected by Covid-19.
He also welcomed donations from the public and non-governmental organisations.
"Coordination with the PKOB chief or district officer is required to ensure those who are really in need in certain districts will get it.
"Volunteers have to inform us a day earlier and provide details on the type of aid, places and number of recipients to ensure smooth delivery," he said.
