PUTATAN: Community leaders have been urged to work together with the government to serve the people more efficiently.

Sabah Community Development and People's Wellbeing Minister Shahelmy Yahya said teamwork was an important element to ensure that any agenda, especially one concerning the people's welfare, can be achieved.

Referring to the state's distribution programme of food baskets and Covid-19 assistance, Shahelmy said there have been instances where targeted groups which have not been registered are giving feedback on how they are not receiving assistance.

"When it comes to dealing with the welfare of the people, we have to be fair and just.

"It has to work both ways. All those involved have to cooperate with government officers when it comes to collecting data," he said.

Shahelmy, who is also Tanjung Keramat assemblyman, was speaking after a programme with the local community at a community centre at Kampung Potuki here.

Also present were the constituency's community development leader Sufian Matin and community development officer Mahadzir Abdul Majid.

The state's food basket aid programme, which has notched up 302,883 recipients so far, had been criticised by several quarters including opposition lawmakers who said many have yet to receive help.

Shahelmy added that the ministry would also update the delivery system next year to ensure that no deserving recipients were left out.
