3 kids go to hut for online classes.

PAPAR: As the schooling session began through virtual classes yesterday, a father here had no choice but to build a makeshift hut for his children to study from the top of a hill.

Jeffery Joseph, 41, said the area which is about an eight-minute walk from his house at Kampung Gana here, is the only spot that has internet connection.

"Before this, there was no problem to access the internet for online class learning as my family lived in an apartment in the city.

"However, the children could not stand to be confined in the apartment during the previous Movement Control Order (MCO).

"Thus, we decided to bring them back to the village for more freedom. This time, they decided to extend their stay here as another round of MCO is being imposed again," he said, adding his children aged 8, 9 and 12 were students of SJK(C) Anglo Chinese in the state capital.

Jeffery added that in the morning, he would bring a computer and a tablet to the hill with his children for the online classes.

He said the makeshift hut, which he and his brother built using bamboo from around the hill, is still ongoing especially the roof.

"For now, the hut is fine with chairs and a table. But it will be troublesome if it rains as there is no cover. Sometimes, there are also mosquitoes."

Meanwhile, commenting on his students at SK Buayan, a far-flung school in the interior, Jeffery said that the school teachers are preparing weekly printed learning materials for them.

Due to the limited internet accessibility, parents of 38 students from the school are required to collect the materials from the school's security guard post.

"Apart from that, we also maintain communication with pupils through the WhatsApp group."
