RANAU: Two villages in the Ranau district here will be placed under a two-week Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) starting tomorrow.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said that the state National Security Council had received a report of an increased number of cases at Kampung Paginatan and Kampung Maringkan.
"To date, the Health Ministry has conducted 529 screening tests whereby 89 were found positive for Covid-19.
"Based on advice and risk assessment, the government today had agreed to have EMCO imposed at Kampung Paginatan and Kampung Maringkan from Dec 29 until Jan 11," he said in a statement.
Masidi, who is also state Local government and Housing minister, said the EMCO order would make it easier for the authority to conduct targeted screening for 865 villagers in the two villages.
The standard operating procedures for both localities would only allow retail shops to operate between 6am until 6pm, while the market is to be opened twice a week from 6am to 2pm.
Only one representative from each household, with permission from the police, is allowed to go for money withdrawal or to buy non-food items.
As for Kg Dasar Baharu and Kg Desa Bajau in Lahad Datu, the EMCO will end as scheduled tomorrow.
"Until Dec 15, 2,714 screening tests had been conducted with 259 from Kg Desa Bajau and 15 from Kg Dasar Baru testing positive.
"However, the Health Ministry confirmed that the remaining Covid-19 positive cases in both localities have shown a downward trend and was under control."
