KOTA KINABALU: The City Hall here will hold the 21st anniversary celebration of Kota Kinabalu City online on Feb 2.

The celebration, which is supposed to have a tree-planting event and the launch of the Kota Kinabalu City Smart Centre, has to be postponed to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Its mayor Noorliza Awang Alip said the virtual event would have several programmes such as tahlil ceremony, thanksgiving prayers and solo dance competitions.

"Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we will not hold a massive celebration event.

"However, the engagement session with the community will continue virtually on Feb 2," she said after paying a courtesy call on the Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at the State Palace, yesterday.

As for the solo dance competition, she said it was to encourage participation from the younger generation in the celebration.

On the collection of parking charges in the state capital, Noorliza said it would be subject to directives from the government.

Throughout the Movement Control Order this year, the local authorities did not impose any charges to the public for parking their vehicles in the city.

"The collection of parking charges will start on Feb 5 throughout the Kota Kinabalu area and any changes are subject to current instructions," she said.

Yesterday, Sabah recorded 295 Covid-19 cases with one death, and a new cluster dubbed Jalan Sulaman.
