KOTA KINABALU: The state government will continue to provide food baskets to villagers affected by floods in Pitas.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar said several villages have had their food supply cut off following the collapse of connecting roads after the flooding.

Previously, it was reported that almost 4,000 people in 15 villages were left without food supply after being cut off by floodwaters.

He added that the government understands the difficulties faced by the people in going out to buy food and necessities due to damaged roads and infrastructure, such as the bridge at Aparoun Telaga river.

"Due to these reasons (damaged infrastructure), it becomes hard for us to send the food baskets.

"However, there are efforts, rolled out in stages, by the district Disaster Committee, chaired by the Pitas district officer, to distribute food aid," he said in a statement.
