KOTA MARUDU: The Sabah government will monitor and assist all flood victims in Kudat, Pitas and Kota Marudu, said the Assistant Minister to State Chief Minister Datuk Wetrom Bahanda.

"Since Monday, evacuation centres for affected villagers have been opened and for now, everything is under control.

"The government and myself as a leader in the area will ensure that no victims are neglected," said the Bandau assemblyman while visiting and distributing aid at the temporary relief centres, here, yesterday.

As for the landslide that cut off the main road in Pitas, Wetrom said he had reported it to the Public Works department (JKR) to resolve the problem.

"I am confident JKR will act fast and be ready to address the situation should it happen again due to heavy rain."

As of 8am, the number of flood victims from 79 villages in the Kota Marudu, Pitas and Beaufort districts increased to 951 from 912 last night.

A total of 310 families are seeking shelter at eight evacuation centres in the three districts.
