PENAMPANG: The African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in Sabah is under control.
Sabah Fisheries and Agriculture minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said for now there were nine districts affected by the ASF.
The districts are Pitas, Kota Marudu, Beluran, Telupid, Kinabatangan, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Tawau and Tongod.
"However, it is under control as we have conducted activities to prevent further spread of the disease.
"There are many pigs which have died from the disease and some were culled.
"Rest assured that the disease would not infect the people but it is best to refrain from eating wild boars," he said at an event in Kampung Rugading, here.
As of March 23, 404 backyard pigs died while 387 backyard pigs were culled. There were 139 wild pigs which died from the virus.
The Sabah Veterinary Services had also conducted 166 awareness campaigns in 11 districts.
As for the Covid-19 vaccination programme at his parliament constituency in Keningau, he said there were no problems in terms of registration and vaccination.
"For now it is the way to tackle the pandemic so that we can open up the economy.
"Information has been disseminated through the media and television to encourage them to register.
"A deadline has been proposed and I advise them to register early," he said.
As of March 25, only 10.6 per cent of Sabahans had registered for the vaccines.
