KOTA KINABALU: The public has been urged to report births and deaths to the police station should both occur outside hospitals prior to registration.

Sabah National Registration (NRD) director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said the procedure was the department's new and updated registration guideline.

"The new procedure requires births and deaths that happen at home, and not at the hospital or clinic, to be reported to the police.

"Informants have to bring the police report and registration form to do register at the nearest NRD," he said in a statement.

Khairrul added the new requirement was to control the issuance of identity documents.

He also said the state NRD had informed the Sabah Police Commissioner on the new guideline.
