KOTA KINABALU: The Nabawan Health office has lodged a police report over threats from the public over Covid-19 cases in the district.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said, for the past three days, the office had received texts and audio messages that went viral via WhatsApp implying people's dissatisfaction with its personnel.

"Those messages were complaints, dissatisfaction and disbelief from the people over the recent increased number of Covid-19 cases in Nabawan. Elements of threats to the safety of government employees and property were identified," he said.

Police would conduct a probe after the report was lodged today, he added.

Masidi, who is also state Local Government and Housing minister, was speaking during a virtual press conference on Covid-19 daily update.

He urged the people to cooperate with health frontliners who are serving the people and ensuring the safety of the community.

"Frontliners have been working endlessly without leave and much rest, they make decisions based on data and evidence.

"It is a serious matter and they cannot 'manufacture' evidence, as those need to be investigated. Decisions made might not be popular, but we need to make the right decision."

Nabawan has been placed under Movement Control Order from today until March 16 after almost 200 Covid-19 cases were detected in 15 villages in the district.

The Sinsingon cluster has also spread to Beaufort and Kota Kinabalu. Today, Sabah recorded 95 new cases with one death in Putatan.
