KENINGAU: Sabah is left behind in terms of development due to incessant politicking, Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said.

"At the federal level, we have had 14 elections, Sarawak had 11 and in Sabah, there were 16.

"The time spent on elections made us lose focus on developing the state," said Bung during a dinner with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition members, here, recently.

Present were Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, state Sports and Youth Minister Datuk Ellron Angin and state Assistant Works Minister Datuk Robert Tawik.

Bung, who is also the Sabah Umno chief, urged his colleagues to continue supporting GRS government for political stability in ensuring development and people's wellbeing.

"Although it is less than a year since GRS took over the state administration since Sept 29, the government has conducted various efforts and initiatives to bring development.

"The government needs to act swiftly to address the slowdown in the economic sector and subsector, as well as identifying new sources and increasing existing state revenues."

Meanwhile, on the federal government's' additional RM600 million for a project to link Serudong at Kalabakan, Tawau with Simanggaris in Kalimantan, Bung said it would give a significant contribution to the state economy.

Bung said the people should grab the opportunities particularly in tourism by offering marketable products for tourists.
