KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has agreed to allow inter-district travel according to zones starting Friday.

State Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Masidi Manjun said the decision was made following requests from many people, especially from the tourism sector which has been allowed to resume operations.

Sabah had yesterday stated it will not allow the people to cross districts due to the risks despite it being placed under the Recovery Movement Control Order starting Friday.

"Taking into consideration that some people are also working in other districts, the zoning will enable the public to cross districts without having to pass through road blocks.

"Nabawan, however, is not listed in any zone as the district is still under the Movement Control Order," he said during a virtual press conference.

Masidi said the people are only allowed to move around in their respective zones.

The first zone comprises Kota Kinabalu, Kota Belud, Ranau, Tuaran, Penampang, Putatan and Papar, while Zone 2 comprises Beaufort, Kuala Penyu and Sipitang.

Zone 3 has Kudat, Kota Marudu and Pitas, while Zone 4 comprises Sandakan, Beluran, Kinabatangan and Tongod.

Tawau, Semporna, Lahad Datu, Kunak and Kalabakan are in Zone 5, while Keningau, Tambunan and Tenom are in Zone 6.

Asked about tour companies that wish to offer travel bubble activities, Masidi said it would be considered based on a case-by-case basis, adding that the companies have to submit their application and justification.

For now, only Sutera Harbour Resorts have applied and been allowed to offer travel bubble activities between Kota-Kinabalu and Kota Belud starting Friday.

The state government also allows official and non-official functions to be held with 50 per cent capacity of the facility where attendees have to abide by the standard operating procedures in preventing Covid-19.
