PENAMPANG: The economic backlash due to the Covid-19 pandemic has not stopped farmers and wholesalers here from helping those in need.

Kapayan assemblyman Jannie Lasimbang said she respected the commitment made by the West Coast Vegetables and Fruits Farmers and Wholesalers Association members to help others.

"They are caring and willing to share with other Sabahans. Vegetable farmers and vendors are facing financial difficulties too, but they do not think twice about donating their produce, instead of just throwing away stuff.

"There are 150 bags of vegetables donated to various institutions including to Penampang police as well as Fire and Rescue Department personnel," she said in a statement.

Jannie said the programme, under the Kapayan Food Bank, is managed by the constituency office.

The Kepayan Food Bank raises funds and collects contribution in kind from various organisations including from the Kota Kinabalu Lions Club and the Donggongon Tai Pak Kung temple in February.
