KOTA KINABALU: The close collaboration between associations and the Health Ministry has helped the immunisation programmes for senior citizens.
Sabah Association of Senior Citizen deputy president Robert Chang said they have contacted the Likas Women's and Children Hospital near here to vaccinate their members.
"The association has submitted the name list of our members to the hospital and until now, there are over 100 members who have received their first dose since May 21.
"The vaccination programme is still ongoing for the rest of our members," he said, adding the association has over 200 members who are keen to be given Sinovac vaccines.
Chang added by directly liaising with the vaccination centre, it has somehow smoothened the process of inoculation.
Although he knew that the vaccination appointment could be made through the MySejahtera App, but he had also informed other association leaders to have direct collaboration with the relevant authorities to help their members.
Meanwhile, The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) president Tan Sri TC Goh suggested the federal and state governments, as well as the private sector coordinate with each other, in formulating a unified approach to facilitate vaccination for the people or employees of various sectors.
"Hence, under this premise, I hope there will be good coordination and close cooperation among all quarters to help expedite our common goal of achieving nationwide herd immunity, as soon as possible.
"This includes allowing those who can afford it to purchase a vaccine of their preferred choice.
"This is especially so, in view of the fact that the progress of our ongoing nationwide Covid-19 immunisation programme is a great concern for many as, out of our 30 over million population, less than 1 million people had undergone their vaccination. This needs to be further boosted."
