Lahad Datu factory sparks Covid-19 cluster, again

KOTA KINABALU: A factory in Lahad Datu is once again home to a Covid-19 cluster with 11 cases presently.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the workplace cluster is named Jalan Kilang Dua.

"This is the second time the factory sparked a cluster after a previous one in December 2020.

"The index case is an asymptomatic 37-year-old man, a worker at the factory, who tested positive on April 23 at the Lahad Datu health clinic.

"Close contact tracing found 10 more positive cases," he said in a statement, adding the infection could be attributed to workers using a closed and confined working space for breaking of fast.

Another coronavirus grouping was the Umas cluster in Kalabakan which recorded 34 cases.

"The index case is a licensing manager at Felda Utara Kalabakan who was detected Covid-19 positive on April 22.

"Also positive is the index case's nine family members and eight people from a mosque," he said, adding the index case may have gotten infected from engaging in activities at the mosque.

Sabah recorded 64 Covid-19 cases with one death in Tawau today.
