KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will impose an inter-district travel ban starting next Monday following triple-digit Covid-19 cases in the past three days.

Today, the state recorded 144 infections, yesterday it was 245 and 160 cases on May 19.

State Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said due to the worsening infection trend, the state government would impose movement restriction from May 24 to June 7.

Previously, the government stated that movement within and in between districts that have been divided into six zones will kick off from May 27.

Heavy movement of people in the state has been anticipated towards month-end for the annual harvest festival of Kaamatan which falls on May 30 and 31, a public holiday in Sabah.

"The implementation of inter-district travel restriction is to control movement and infection from red and orange zones to other green and yellow categories districts.

"(However), it will be subject to review," he said in a statement, adding Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Putatan will still be considered as one district.

As of today, nine districts are categorised as red zones with more than 40 cases, two districts as orange with between 21 and 40 cases, nine districts with 1 to 20 cases (yellow) and seven green districts without any cases.

For the Covid-19 inoculation programme, 55,145 people have completed two doses of Covid-19 vaccines as of today.

Sabah saw 501,899 or 17.1 per cent of its total population registering for the vaccination.
