KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded two Covid-19 clusters in the state's east coast possibly arising from religious activities.

State Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the Sungai Langgas cluster in Kunak, has a total of 19 infections.

"The Sungai Langgas cluster in Kunak involved a community at Kampung Langgas whereby the index case is the symptomatic 21-year-old daughter of Al-Masjid Al-Mansa Imam who tested positive at Kunak Hospital on May 4.

"Based on observation, the index case is believed to be infected by her father who is also likely to have spread to other congregants," he said, adding that among those also infected are the girl's family members, close contacts, which was detected through screening at the hospital.

For the Jalan Imam Jalilul cluster in Tawau, it was detected when the 41-year-old index case, a teacher at SK Pasir Putih, tested positive on May 7.

"From 32 close contacts who were screened, two out of 10 who tested positive are from SMK Pasir Putih quarters, six from Kampung Tanjung Batu Darat and two from Taman Semarak.

"Based on initial information, the index case was likely infected when breaking fast at his brother's house at Jalan Imam Jalilul, Tanjung Batu Darat on May 2.

"The infection might also have taken place when the index case performed Solat Terawih daily at the Jideen mosque."

Sabah recorded 60 Covid-19 cases today with one death in Keningau.
