KOTA KINABALU: A disabled woman who was brought to the Keningau district hospital for post mortem ended up being the index case for the Pulutan cluster in Nabawan.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the cluster was recorded on May 31 through screening on the 56-year-old deceased.

She had developed symptoms such as coughing and fever two days before she died.

"Based on initial investigation, the index case is believed to be infected when paying last respects at a funeral at Kampung Pulutan from May 30 to 31.

"Following that case, 97 people were screened with 10 testing positive for Covid-19 while 86 are still waiting for the results," he said in a statement.

The woman is buried at the Kampung Pulutan cemetery on June 3.

Sabah recorded 287 Covid-19 cases with three deaths from Tawau.

On the vaccination programme, Masidi also urged religious institutions including mosques and surau to disseminate information about immunisation and the standard operating procedures.

"This could help the state government in spreading that information to the people, especially in the rural areas."

Meanwhile, the state government is banning public transport to cross the district throughout the Movement Control Order 3.0 that takes effect until June 14.
