More roadblocks to be set up for Sabah lockdown

KOTA KINABALU: The authorities will mount an additional 26 roadblocks from Tuesday in Sabah as the nationwide lockdown kicks off.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said by having more checkpoints it was hoped that the police could have better control of the traffic when the two-week lockdown comes into force on June 1.

At present, Sabah has barred inter-district travel except for emergencies and essential services.

In the past 24 hours, 38,075 vhicles were inspected at 72 roadblocks. Out of those numbers, 259 vehicles were told to make U-turns.

"Forty-nine compounds have also been issued for those flouting Covid-19 standard operating procedures in the state.

"It includes 15 people not wearing masks or improper way of wearing them; eight for failure to instal temperature scanner or record; 13 for people crossing districts without permission; 10 no physical distancing; as well as three for passengers numbers exceeding in cars."

Today, Sabah recorded 190 cases with two deaths in Lahad Datu.

Masidi also said authorities recorded a total of 101 Covid-19 cases from screening close contacts; 44 cases were from cluster screening, 31 cases from symptomatic screening, six from targeted screening and eight from other categories.
