KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will follow the federal government's move in implementing a total lockdown in the state.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said this in response to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office last night on a two weeks nationwide lockdown starting June 1.
"This government is also deciding to implement it in Sabah as it is necessary to prevent the increasing numbers of Covid-19 infections in the state.
"(However), the economic sector and essential services will be allowed (during the lockdown)," he said in a statement, adding further standard operating procedures (SOP) would be issued soon.
Following the significant increase of infection with 308 Covid-19 cases recorded yesterday, the state government imposed additional restrictions starting today.
It includes no dine-ins and limiting group outdoor exercise activities.
Yesterday, statistics showed that Sabah became the second most contagious state with a 1.26 Rt value.
The R value represents the average number of vulnerable people that each new Covid-19 patient could potentially infect, with a value of below 1.0 needed to successfully suppress the spread of the disease.
