KOTA KINABALU: Traffic at most main roads here has reduced due the setting up of more roadblocks as part of measures to curb Covid-19 infections.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the state police inspected 54,502 vehicles at 125 roadblocks throughout the state yesterday.
From those inspections, 769 vehicles were ordered to turn back for either exceeding passenger capacity or travelling without permission letters.
"Stricter inspection by police has caused reduced traffic at most main roads and we hope the public can understand the implementation of SOPs and stricter control according to procedures gazetted by the National Security Council and Health Ministry," he said in a statement.
Masidi, who is also state Local Government and Housing minister, added that the operations for essential services and goods are under the purview of the Sabah government and local authorities.
He said the state Covid-19 Disaster Management Committee had decided there was no need to get approvals from the International Trade and Industry Ministry for inter-district travels.
"However, these workers have to prepare letters from employers and police as stated in the previous press statement."
Yesterday, Sabah recorded 336 Covid-19 cases with one death in Kota Kinabalu.
Four new clusters are Hamparan in Kinabatangan, Kampung Bolong Baru in Tuaran and Kota Belud, Taman Wawasan in Beaufort, Kota Kinabalu and Papar, as well as Jalan Budi in Tawau.
The Hamparan cluster is associated with workplace infection while Kampung Bolong Baru and Taman Wawasan are due to Raya Aidilifitri celebrations.
As for Jalan Budi, the index case is a 37-year-old woman who travelled from Johor and tested positive upon arrival at the international airport here. Her results were initially negative before she came to Sabah.
