Covid-19: Kepayan prison cluster records significant increase in cases

KOTA KINABALU: The Tembok-Kota Kinabalu cluster now has 134 Covid-19 cases since it was first detected four days ago.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the cluster, involving the Kepayan prison had contributed 51 cases to today's new infections.

"Today, Kota Kinabalu recorded 99 new Covid-19 cases. Out of the total, 66 are from cluster screenings.

"There are 51 cases from (the) Tembok-Kota Kinabalu cluster, five from the Ocean Blue cluster, and five from the Tanjung Aru Baru cluster," he said in a statement, adding that the state capital recorded the highest number of cases as compared to other districts.

Today, Sabah logged 242 new Covid-19 cases with two deaths in Kota Belud and one in Tawau.

The new Limbawang-Beaufort cluster was a community cluster triggered by a funeral at Kg Gelilia Padas Damit on June 20.

"The index case is a 35-year-old man, from Kampung Kelabu, who tested positive at the Padas Damit health clinic on June 21 after developing symptoms since June 12.

"Close contact screenings have identified four positive cases among family members and guests who attended the funeral.

"There is also evidence of infection among social contacts at four localities around Limbawang with 21 testing positive," he said.
