PUTATAN: The Sabah government has given its assuramces that Covid-19 vaccine supply will be adequate starting next month.
State Community Development and People's Wellbeing Minister Shahelmey Yahya said this month, the supply was limited with an average of between 12,000 and 14,000 people being inoculated daily.
"However, starting July, the supply is expected to be enough for us to achieve vaccination rate of 30,000 per day," he said at the Pasir Putih community hall here to kickstart the food baskets aid under the third edition of the Bantuan Prihatin Negeri Sabah (3.0 BPN) programme.
Yesterday, the state immunisation programme only inoculated 8,730 people.
The Tanjung Keramat assemblyman added that with the vaccination rate of 30,000 vaccine doses being administered daily next month, the state would be expected to secure herd immunity by October with more than three million people being inoculated.
He also said despite Sabah having recorded 29 per cent of the total eligible population registered for the vaccination, via outreach programmes, the authorities could still hit the target.
As for the food baskets, the state has allocated about 340,000 for targeted groups listed in the E-Kasih and B40 household incomes, as well as those affected by the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).
Shahelmey urged those affected by the EMCO to wait patiently for the food aid to reach them within one or two days.
On the lockdown order which would expire on June 28, he said it would be up to the authorities whether to extend it for Sabah.
"We are hoping the Covid-19 cases in the state will reduce. If it goes down, there is no reason not to relax the strict standard operating procedures in stages."
Meanwhile, the Sawit Kinabalu Group will distribute food baskets worth RM1 million to communities in 15 districts where it operates in the state.
Those food baskets will be distributed via Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB) in Papar, Beaufort, Membakut, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Marudu, Pitas, Beluran, Tongod, Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, Tungku, Kunak, Semporna, Tawau and Kalabakan.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also Sawit Kinabalu group chairman, witnessed the symbolic cheque presentation from the group managing director Bacho Jansie to State Secretary and State COVID-19 Disaster Management Committee Chairman Datuk Seri Safar Untong.
