KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will be holding its three-day assembly sitting starting on Aug 24.

State Legislative Assembly speaker Datuk Kadzim M. Yahya said swab test results were among the prerequisites to attend the sitting.

"All assemblymen and staff involved must submit the results of their Covid-19 screening three days before the sitting.

"On top of that, they have to complete two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine," he said in a statement.

Earlier, Kadzim had attended the virtual opening ceremony of the conference for Speakers of Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies.

The annual event aimed to improve the initiative and procedures at the parliament and other states.

He added the conference, with 16-people including speakers of the state assembly and parliament, was supposed to be held last year but was postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic.

"The purpose of this conference is to enable the Speakers of Parliament and the State Assembly to exchange views on how to improve initiatives, procedures in Parliament and also the states.

"This time, we are discussing getting a uniform procedure especially in holding proceedings during this pandemic," he said.

For Sabah, Kadzim said he raised the issue on broadband capacity in the state which was less than satisfactory which would affect the hybrid approach for assembly sitting.
