SOOK: A village here has banned non-vaccinated people from coming in to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the locality.
Kampung Kiulu Baru Village Development and Security Committee chairman Julianus Gutang said they started the restriction on July 21 and put up a banner at the entrance of the village.
"This is meant for outsiders as we never know their health status.
"This restriction is necessary as the village is the entry to the new hiking spot which is the Kosimbut Hill," he told the New Straits Times.
Julianus said outsiders also have to make a phone call or text the authorities if they want to come into the village.
As for the villagers, he said almost 80 per cent of those eligible have been vaccinated.
There are 214 people in Kampung Kiulu Baru.
"In the beginning, many of them refused vaccination due to influence from social media alleging tha the vaccines were dangerous.
"But now, their awareness is at 99 per cent and they are very receptive of the ongoing inoculation programme."
As of yesterday, 10.5 per cent or 409,209 of Sabah's total population had completed their vaccination.
The state administered 39,128 Covid-19 vaccines yesterday and is aiming to increase it to 50,000 daily doses.
