KOTA KINABALU: In conjunction with the National day celebrations today, the Sabah government recognised 10 recipients for their sacrifice and dedication in serving the community.
Assistant Malaysian Red Crescent Youth director Kevin Lo, who was among the recipients, said he was touched and thankful for the recognition.
The state-level National-day celebrations were officiated by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at the State Administrative Centre here this morning.
"As a volunteer, the challenge during Covid-19 pandemic is that I have to be on duty almost every day, thus the time spent with family is very limited.
"I assist the Health Ministry and Community Welfare department not only at the vaccination centres, but also help to prepare food and assist in the hospital blood bank.
"I am very touched and grateful for the acknowledgement from the Sabah government and I will give my best service for the people," said the 37-year old in a statement.
Another recipient is Sabah Immigration enforcement officer Muhammad Ghulam Ghulam Rasul, 29, who is involved in ensuring standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance among the industrialists.
"I spend my weekends monitoring and ensuring employers at factories or workplaces with foreigners comply with the SOP.
"It is inevitable that this task means I am exposed to Covid-19. I am really thankful for such an honor, it makes all the effort and tiredness worthwhile."
Meanwhile 14 "Merdeka" babies were born at the Sabah Women and Children's Hospital in Likas as of 5pm today.
Its director Dr Marcus Netto said there were eight girls and six boys.
"The first delivery was at 1.45am, with a baby girl weighing 2.73 kilogramme."
