SIPITANG: Sipitang Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) remains strong despite the departure of Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob.

Its deputy division chief Mahadi Momin said the division was now more united towards strengthening the party's struggles.

As of now, only seven former committee members including acting Women division chief had followed Dr Yusof.

Dr Yusof was the second assemblymen to quit Warisan after Sebatik assemblyman Hassan A Gani Pg Amir did the same on Feb 25.

Mahadi said the party wings were still functioning as normal and ready for the annual general meeting soon.

"Sipitang Warisan (members) are pledging allegiance to the leadership of (party president) Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

"We will always support the party's aspirations to face the 15th General Election," he said, adding that the pledge was made before Warisan supreme council member Azhar Matussin last night.

Azhar, who is also Darau assemblyman, said like Dr Yusof, the former information chief for Sepanggar division Mohd Salleh Abdullah's exit did not have much impact for the party.

"We confirm here that only Mohd Salleh Abdullah and a committee member left the Sepanggar division.

"We remain steadfast in our stand to provide unwavering support to the top leadership of the division as well as at the state," he said.

Azhar also said the division would mobilise their machinery, especially the information committee, to explain the current political situation at the grassroot level.

Apart from Sipitang and Sepanggar, Tawau Warisan division chief Abdul Salip Ejal and nine committee members were reported to have resigned from the party last week.

Warisan won 23 out of 73 seats during the 16th state assembly. It is now left with only 20 seats with Warisan's Bugaya seat remaining vacant after the death of incumbent Manis Muka.
