KOTA KINABALU: Three premises here have been found selling Covid-19 self-test kits above the ceiling price of RM19.90 each.

Sabah Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry director George Abas said the three were among 35 premises inspected by the authorities for two days since yesterday.

"Premises owners are advised to reduce the price to RM19.90 per unit. The government, through the ministry, will give seven days starting today to adjust the price accordingly.

"After the grace period, there will be no leniency for businesses that failed to comply with the maximum controlled price. Stern action will be taken," he said in a statement.

George said failure to comply with the regulations would see traders subjected to action under Section 11, Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

Upon conviction, one can be fined up to RM100,000.00 or imprisoned not more than three years or both or compounded up to RM50,000.00.

Actions and penalties can also be imposed on the company, through a fine of up to RM500,000 or compound of up to RM250,000.

"Therefore, all traders are required to comply with the price to ensure that the kits can be purchased at affordable prices by consumers to monitor their health," said George.
