KOTA KINABALU: The 2022 Budget is in line with the direction taken by the Sabah Community Development and People's Wellbeing Ministry.
Its minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said the financial allocation had covered the needs of the ministry's targeted people which are the women, elderly, single parents, disabled and children.
"In addition, the assistance to single mothers and senior citizens is also an added value according to the criteria set under the Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (BKM) initiative," he said.
In tabling the 2022 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat today, Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said single parents with monthly income less than RM5,000 would receive RM2,500 in a family with three or more children. As for senior citizens, they will get an additional RM300.
Shahelmey also applauded the allocation of RM13 million to address sexual harassment cases.
"The Government's decision to empower Division D11 of the Royal Malaysia Police to conduct sexual investigations against women and children is very appropriate."
The Tanjung Keramat assemblyman said the budget also reflected the government's direction to help revive the existing economy affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
"During the pandemic, many including youths were affected.
"With the guaranteed 600,000 jobs, MyStep programme for 80,000 participants and other initiatives to upgrade the skills, it could create employment and the economy," he said.
