KOTA KINABALU: The departure of Lahad Datu Member of Parliament Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi from Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) is unacceptable.

The party supreme council member Azhar Matussin said the lawmaker had taken the easy way out from the party by ignoring the people's mandate in the 14th General Election.

He said the exit of Mohamaddin who is also the Segama assemblyman's from Warisan was expected over the past few days.

"It is not easy to be an honest elected representative and loyal to the people's mandate and at the same time prioritise the struggle to uphold the dignity of the people of Sabah.

"Mohamaddin ran away from the struggle and left his comrades. Now he is working with the people who he once said were no good," he said in a statement.

Mohamaddin, 64, in a press conference earlier today said he quit Warisan to focus on developing the Lahad Datu and Segama constituencies, which he said had made no progress.

Azhar said that there was no need to quit the party to focus on serving in the areas represented as the current government would be fully responsible for development in those areas.

Despite Mohamaddin quitting the party, he was nevertheless confident that other Warisan lawmakers would be focused in helping the people affected by the Covid-19 outbreak and at the same time strive to provide the best service to the people that they represent.

"We remain focused in helping the people who really need the services of elected representatives in their areas," said Azhar, who is the Darau State Assemblyman.

Mohammadin, who was a member of the Warisan Supreme Council, won the Lahad Datu Parliamentary seat (formerly Silam) in the 2018 General Election on a Warisan ticket and the Segama state seat in the 16th State Election last year.

The former Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister is the third Warisan leader to quit the party this month, following in the foot steps of Sindumin state assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob on Oct 8 and Sebatik assemblyman Hassan A Gani Pg Amir who quit last February.
