KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) will take action against irresponsible individuals for designing their money-lending service flyer to look like a DBKK compound notice.
Its mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip said the flyers had led to confusion among the public.
"DBKK would like to refute allegations that the flyers belong to us.
"We also received complaints from the public (about it) and it has also gone viral on social media. Certain quarters have been distributing their flyers by attaching it to the windshield of cars," she said in a statement.
She added that it is believed the company is trying to lure people to read the contents of the flyers which offer loans with interests.
"Further investigations will be done to track down the company and action will be taken under the Kota Kinabalu Municipal Council (Advertisements) by-laws, 1983.
"If convicted, a fine of RM5,000 will be imposed under the same by-laws," she said, adding DBKK would seek help from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to cancel the contact numbers found on the flyers.
Noorliza added that DBKK had also lodged a police report and urged the public to inform them should they see anyone still distributing similar flyers around the city.
Information can be channelled via DBKK's hotline 012-2220220.
