KOTA KINABALU: The melancholy of the Covid-19 pandemic has driven Akademi Fantasia 4 finalist Velvet Aduk to come up with a song dedicated to her children.
The Penampang-born singer said that the tune titled Mama was an expression of love written in the form of a melodious journal for her four offsprings.
"During the pandemic which led to several lockdowns, many people were in despair, isolated from the world and some even lost their loved ones," said Velvet in a statement.
She added that it was during that period of time that everyone started to realise that life was too short and people should appreciate the moment they had with others.
Velvet, 34, who is also the wife of rock band Estranged's frontman Rich Lawrence Gimbang, 40, said that the lyrics touched on her role as a mother who would constantly be there for her children.
"I want to be able to be there for my children, through their ups and downs. I want to be able to watch them grow.
"I also want them to be rest assured that I will always be there for them no matter what, and I believe every parent would do the same for their children.
"In life, priority changes as we grow older and when you have children, they become your priority," she said.
Mama will premiere tomorrow at noon on her official Youtube page.
Velvet, a finalist of Akademi Fantasia 4 in 2006, has started producing songs, and her first self-titled EP was launched in 2012.
After the reality show ended, she became a mother and started focusing on motherhood whilst writing songs.
In 2018, Sumandak Sabah, a single produced by Velvet and Marsha Milan Londoh became a hit and its music video raked in some 14 million views on YouTube.
The following year, the duo released another single called Oi Gaman. It garnered 4.2 million views on YouTube.
