KOTA KINABALU: The latest relaxation for travellers entering Sabah via Singapore is based on a government-to-government agreement.

Last night, Sabah issued new standard operating procedures (SOP) where fully vaccinated passengers from the Republic will be no longer need to repeat the Covid-19 RTK-Antigen test upon arrival.

The exemption is for those from Singapore who tested negative at least two days prior to departing to Sabah.

However, Sabah still imposes a quarantine order for partially or unvaccinated travellers. Those who transit via Singapore are still required to repeat tests when they arrive in Sabah.

State Health director Datuk Dr Rose Nani Mudin said the relaxation on SOPs for them is based on a Memorandum of Understanding between the Malaysian and Singaporean Government.

"(The agreement) also includes the exclusion for travel insurance for Malaysians and Singaporeans including those long-term pass holders.

"(The SOP is also formulated) as there are few hundred thousand Malaysians working in Singapore," she said.

Prior to Sabah shutting off international borders due to Covid-19 pandemic, Sabah saw 34,435 arrivals from Singapore in 2019
