"This time with the relaxation of standard operating procedures (SOP), the feeling of observing the service with others is more meaningful.

"Seeing others coming here this morning, it shows people are aware that they are sinful and ready to ask for forgiveness," said the 57-year-old mother from Penampang.

Anne Lovely Lo, 20, shared the same sentiment of being able to be at the cathedral on a holy Friday despite the crowd.

"It should be alright to be here as long as the congregants follow the SOP such as social distancing and wearing masks.

"Furthermore, most people have been vaccinated and they know what to do," she added.

Sabah recently set guidelines for non-muslim religious institutions to not restrict the number of attendees at an activity provided there is social distancing among them.

Earlier, Kota Kinabalu Archbishop Datuk John Wong also made the same reminder to congregants prior to starting the service.

From 3pm today, Christians will attend Good Friday prayers' session either at church or via Youtube channels.
