KOTA KINABALU: The people of Sabah should have access to quality education, said Pacos Trust executive director Anne Lasimbang.
She said such accessibility should be measured in terms of the quality of education, content and manpower.
"We can have a nice (school) building, but what are the contents? What about the quality of teachers and those who manage education?
"During the pandemic, it became more difficult when classes were being conducted online. There was a big gap in education between those who have access (to the Internet and gadgets) and those without access," she said during a virtual press conference on the People's Agenda for the 15th General Election (GE15).
Anne added that the pandemic had also emphasised food security, which contributes to dignity and quality of life of the people.
"This can be done by sourcing local food produce by supporting farmers and encouraging community urban farming. This can help to reduce our carbon footprint.
"We also need good infrastructure to market our produce. Nowadays there are a lot of marketing activities being conducted online. But if we don't have a good infrastructure, it will be a big hindrance."
She also highlighted that quality childcare is also paramount to ensure working mothers are able to contribute to the economy.
She said social security for the vulnerable groups and affordable housing especially for low-income earners who stay in urban areas were needed.
