KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government is encouraging students from tertiary institutions to venture into the world of digital business.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam said Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) had said such students could get free guidance from their lecturers and the Career and Student Entrepreneurship Development Centre to develop their virtual businesses on campus.

"I am confident the teaching staff will always be ready to guide you to become a successful entrepreneur on campus.

"If you are lucky, your business can be more developed, and it will be something stable enough for you to earn some income even after you graduate. Experiencing business while studying can make you more confident after graduation.

"A lack of capital should not be an excuse to not venture into the business world because one could start with a dropship or an affiliate business venture.

"It is up to you if one wants to be a job seeker or become a job creator by becoming a highly educated entrepreneur. The job market is very challenging out there," he said when launching the UMS third virtual entrepreneurship basics programme expo.

Dr Joachim, who is also the state industrial development minister, said UMS is committed to supporting the government's aspiration to produce more highly-skilled and competitive entrepreneurs.

He added that his ministry, through the Industrial Development and Research Department (DIDR), has been assigned for entrepreneurship development in Sabah.

"The state government, especially through my ministry, provides various facilities to help entrepreneurs grow and thrive in business.

"We need more young entrepreneurs in Sabah, who provide employment opportunities and at the same time help boost the Sabah economy."
