KOTA BELUD: Hizkia Lotuin is a familiar presence at trail race events in Sabah, but you won't find him participating as a runner.
Instead, the 42-year-old from here dedicates his time from four hours up to three days, to photographing the runners in various categories during these events.
Before becoming a trail run photographer, Hizkia was passionate about capturing landscape and nature photos.
His interest in trail running photography began during the Kadamaian Adventure Race Ultra (KAR) in 2017, where he overcame his anxiety and developed a keen interest in the task.
"From that event, I got to know the people behind these events and became part of the organising team for upcoming trail events," he told the New Straits Times.
Using the byline "Kuka Lotuin," he has now been involved in at least 50 running events either as an organiser or freelance photographer.
Hizkia often attends trail run events as a freelance or ghost photographer, enjoying the opportunity to meet runners who have become his friends.
"Taking pictures also serves as one of my income streams, as many runners invite me to capture their running moments.
"Some of them love to keep their running memories in the form of pictures. I am grateful for the support we receive as photographers, as there are only a few of us from Sabah," he said.

"The Kinotoki-Kilambun route offers breathtaking views of Mount Kinabalu and Mount Nungkok."
"This place can be developed as a new tourism destination in Kadamaian," he said, while expressing gratitude for the support received, including prize sponsorship worth RM30,000 from Kadamaian assemblyman Datuk Ewon Benedick.
