961 forest and bush fires in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has recorded 961 forest and bush fires as of today.

State Fire and Rescue Department director Abdul Razak Muda stated that the statistics cover the period from January 1 until March 13.

Tuaran recorded the highest number of fire cases, with 207 incidents involving 120 bushes, 83 forests, and four farms or plantations.

This is followed by Kota Belud (136), Kota Kinabalu (90), Lintas (75), Penampang (60), Kuala Penyu (56), Kimanis (55), and Papar (50).

"For today, 235.5 acres (95.19 hectares) of land were destroyed in 24 bushfires, 12 forest fires, and four farm or plantation fires," he said in a statement.

According to the Air Pollutant Index as of 9 pm, Kimanis showed the highest reading of 88, which is at a moderate level.
