KOTA KINABALU: Sabah would have two Proton e.MAS outlets as Proton Holdings Bhd is rolling out its electrical vehicles (EV).
Proton vice president (Sales & After Sales) Edmund Lim Meng Thong said that the national automaker expects to launch its EV during the Q4 of this year.
“Those dealers are going to set up showrooms for e.MAS in Sabah.
“We are looking into the long term as EV has just started in Malaysia. In terms of numbers, we are looking at the trend” he told the media after the launching of the company’s regional parts centre in Kota Kinabalu.
Earlier this week in Kuala Lumpur, Proton announced that it is looking to have at least 25 showrooms to become operational before the launch of e.MAS7 at the end of this year.
According to the Road Transport Department, Sabah and Labuan only have 611 registered electrical vehicle owners.
However, the National Energy Policy projects 2022-2040 expects around 1,000 EV users by the end of 2025.
As of July 31, Energy Commission of Sabah has approved six applications for EVCS licences to companies that own EVCS on their premises.
Meanwhile, on the launching of the regional parts centre, Lim said that the premises of 28,000 square feet are 2.5 times bigger than the previous ones.
“The RPC has been operational since October 17, 2005 and it has now consolidated into one location to provide services for East Malaysia.
“Order fulfilment is expected to recover to 75 per cent by September and stabilise at 90 per cent in Q4 of this year.”
Present were PROTON Parts Centre director Sam Zhang and After Sales director Wan Hazran Wan Mustafa.
