“We are promoting Sabah very strongly and aggressively through my ministry and the Sabah Tourism Board. I hope we can expand to more countries and attract more tourists to Sabah.
“We are a very unique and diverse ministry. We oversee the mountains, the sea, wildlife, and many other aspects. We are working to accomplish what needs to be done for the benefit of Sabah,” she told reporters after the open day and dialogue session for Sabah Malaysia My Second Home (Sabah-MM2H).
Following the acquisition, it was reported that the new carrier would continue to serve Rural Air Services (RAS), with plans to expand to regional and international routes, including key destinations such as Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Jakarta.
Earlier in her speech, Liew stated that Sabah-MM2H officially launched on Dec 12 last year and, as expected, faced some initial challenges.
She said that Sabah-MM2H is more than just a visa program; it plays a crucial role in boosting the state’s economy by attracting residents who not only invest in Sabah but also contribute meaningfully to society.
“The ministry will do its best to provide guidance and ensure a smooth process for all applicants and stakeholders.
“For 2025, our target is to attract at least 500 applicants. Of course, the more applicants we receive, the better it will be for the program and our state.
“We also plan to review the program’s criteria in June 2025 to ensure it remains relevant, competitive, and aligned with Sabah’s long-term development goals.”
