PENAMPANG: Two-term Kapayan assemblyman Jannie Lasimbang, 63, will likely defend her seat in the state election.
"I have talked to my party. They asked me to continue defending Kapayan, mainly because we must have more women, especially native representation, in DAP.
"But let's wait for the party's decision," she told the "New Straits Times" during a walkabout at Donggongon Square near here.
Jannie, a former state assistant law and native affairs minister, said Sabah Pakatan Harapan has been providing training and public and media exposure for potential women candidates since last year.
"When the leadership indicates an opportunity (to field more women candidates), we are ready."
Prior to the walkabout, Jannie organised a one-hour podcast with potential candidates.
During the session, panellists highlighted the importance of women progressing in their careers and political journeys.
