KOTA KINABALU: Two 16-year-old students were instructed to clean the pool of blood where the late Zara Qairina Mahathir was found after she was taken away in an ambulance on July 16, the Coroner's Court heard today.
SMKA Tun Mustapha security guard Linah Mansoding testified that the chief warden, Ustaz Azhari, told the two girls to wash the area.
"There was blood from Zara's foot. A male security guard also helped by flashing a torchlight for them.
"However, the bloodstain, which has now turned black, can still be seen now," she said before Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan.
Linah also told the court she had seen two students and Ustaz Azhari move Zara.
She said Zara was not wearing a tudung, her upper body was partially exposed and no slippers or shoes were found nearby.
Linah made a "gasping" sound" to describe Zara's response when she tried to stir the girl while waiting for the ambulance which came after an hour.
Lawyer Shahlan Jufri, representing Zara's family, questioned her why the body had been moved.
"I'm not sure, but they said they pitied her (Zara)," Linah replied, adding that the area where Zara was discovered had been poorly lit for two months.
She added that Ustaz Azhari had asked her to delete a picture she took of Zara when she was first found.
"He asked me to delete it as he was worried it would be shared if students borrowed my phone," she said.
The photo has since been tendered as one of the exhibits in the 17-day inquest.
