KOTA KINABALU: A security guard at SMKA Tun Mustapha said she was unsure if the late Zara Qairina Mahathir had ever been asked to attend a "Mesyuarat Agung" (MA).
The inquest's sixth witness, Linah Monsoding, said that "MA" referred to a gathering where seniors would advise or reprimand juniors.
Linah had earlier testified that she heard students talking about the allegation that Zara was involved in a theft after a student lost her wallet containing RM300.
Lawyer Shahlan Jufri, who is representing Zara's family, asked the 65-year-old if Zara was asked to attend a MA.
Linah answered briefly: "Maybe", adding she learned about the MA from students.
"(It is meant to reprimand those) who commit offences such as not showing respect, or not smiling when passing seniors. It is to make juniors respect seniors," she said.
Linah said MA sessions are now "banned" as Form Five students have been asking others to report any disciplinary issues directly to teachers instead of taking their own actions.
She recalled that only three MA sessions were held between 2017 and 2020.
Since the start of the 2025 school session in March, she added, she had not heard of any MA taking place.
The inquest, now in its seventh day, continues to probe the circumstances surrounding Zara's death.
